Deutsch III und IV: Erlkönig Projekt

  1. Discuss the background info given to you via Powerpoint.
  2. Listen to the various musical renditions of the poem in class.
  3. Read the text of the poem using the 3-step process.
  4. Go to the Wikipedia article linked on the German III/IV website and compare your understanding of the poem to the English translation found there.

Write a brief summary, auf deutsch, of the story told in the poem.  Then write 3-4 sentences auf deutsch in which you interpret and/or react to the poem.  This can be written or typed.

If you write it:

Write in dark blue or black ink

25 points     Interpretive Assignment   Due: ___________________

Choose one of the following (may do with partner).  Each must have a short explanation of approximately 150 words to accompany it.  Write or type according to the instructions above.

  1. Perform a reading of the poem, auf deutsch, set to music appropriate to the mood and theme of the poem.
  2. Create a collage or other piece of visual art (must be at least 11” x 14” in size) including the text of the poem and images/decorations that interpret the poem.
  3. Create a Powerpoint or video in which you include the words of the poem and images to accompany it.  If you want to have music accompaniment you may.
  4. Read the text and listen to the song “Dalai Lama” by Rammstein and compare/contrast the two in a chart, written in German.  There is a link to the song on the German III/ IV website.
  5. Rewrite the poem (auf deutsch) telling the same story but in a different means.  See the example (first 2 stanzas).  It can be humorous or serious.

Elvis, mit Sonnenbrille und Lederhose?"

"Nein, es gibt nur den Himmel mit Gelbe und Rosa"....
